Dayton Urges Minn. Businesses to Adopt a School | News
Gov. Mark Dayton is encouraging Minnesota businesses to "adopt a school" and take a more active role in educating the state's youth.
Dayton spoke Tuesday at South Education Center in Richfield. The intermediate school provides both gifted classes and special education for a dozen Twin Cities districts.
Last year at Dayton's urging the superintendent set out to find businesses to adopt the school. Since then the school has formed numerous partnerships, including with Best Buy and Fairview Hospitals to provide everything from money to buy laptops to grants for a teen parent program.
Dayton says in a time of scarce state resources that such private-public partnerships are critical to meeting student needs.
He's encouraging other school districts and businesses to match up with each other.
