Edina PD to Teach Residents How to Haze Coyotes

It's not often you hear a person in a position of authority encouraging hazing.  But, if you attend an upcoming class put on by the Edina Police Department, you will.

The department plans a dozen presentations to the community  teaching them the "proper way to haze coyotes."

The Three Rivers Parks District wants you to enjoy nature with your valentine.  It's offering several events in the coming weeks in honor of Valentines Day.

At Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington, there will be candlelight, chocolate and acoustic music.  At Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista, visitors can take a sleigh ride through the pastures.

Fall is here and it means it can be more dangerous for drivers on the roads because of Minnesota's deer population--the MnDNR says there are one million deer out there.

State officials say the animals are moving around because it's deer breeding season and because crops are being harvested.

Time to Trim Trees: Emerald Ash Borer Hibernates

If you have an ash tree in your yard now is the perfect time to trim it up or take it down.

The emerald ash borer, a beetle that attacks and kills ash trees, is hibernating until spring.

The beetle is inactive between Labor Day and May 1st most years, but since this year has been unusually warm, it was active through September.

Protect Young Trees from Deer Damage Now

If you're planting new trees in the late summer and fall, Minnetonka officials say you need to act now to prevent any damage from deer.

Trees should be protected with hardware cloth, welded wire or a plastic guard from mid-August through April.

The deer like to rub their antlers on the stems of deciduous trees and can shred the tree trunk, killing the tissue under the bark.
